Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team split a pair of non-conference games with Brewton Parker (Ga.) in the 2026 home opener at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park on Tuesday.
In the opening game, the visiting Barons scored runs in the first and second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Brenau offense answered with an eight run 3rd inning as Cayden Warren started off the scoring barrage with a solo homer to left field. The squad followed up with two RBIs by Dayton Power, and RBIs by Peyton Hawkins, Whitney Hulsey, Breanne Brookshire, Charlotte Smith and another by Warren to take an 8-2 advantage.
Brewton Parker (9-1 overall) scored one run in the top of the 5th inning, but the Golden Tiger offense responded again in the bottom of the inning with RBIs by Power and Ava Moon to increase the lead to 10-3.
Starting pitcher Riley Walker closed the door the final two innings to secure the 10-3 victory. The freshman pitched a complete game, allowing only three runs while striking out three.
Warren went 3-3 with a homer and 2 RBIs, while Power went 2-4 with 3 RBis.
In game two, the Barons again jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Golden Tigers answered in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Both teams battled throughout the next four innings to a 6-6 tie, until Brewton Parker scored one run in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 advantage. Brenau was unable to answer in the final two innings as the visitors escaped with the victory.
Moon led the offense with 3 hits and 2 RBIs and Power also continued her strong day with 3 hits and 2 steals. Hulsey added 2 hits, and Folds and Allie Busbee each added an RBI.
Brenau starter Emily Hall pitched 6.2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs to take the loss.
Brenau (5-1 overall) next plays host to Agnes Scott (Ga.) College (1-3 overall) on Friday for a 3 pm doubleheader.
