Gainesville, Ga.- The Brenau soccer team won its second consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference match with a 2-0 shutout over Bluefield (Va.) University on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers dominated possession in the first half, but struggled to find the back of the net as the squad posted a staggering 31 shots on goal. However, in the 55th minute, junior Abigail Menjivar dropped off a pass for sophomore Sofia Cavazos, who scored Brenau's first goal of the match.
The team capitalized on the momentum when just over three minutes later, junior Ryalie Acker blasted a deep shot off an assist from freshman Emily Tamayo to beat Rams' keeper Autumn Matthews for a 2-0 lead. For Tamayo, this was her fourth assists of the season, which ranks her third in the AAC in total assists.
Golden Tiger keeper Zyara Gonzalez-Galeano kept her third clean sheet of the season to earn the victory.
Brenau (4-2 overall, 2-1 AAC) stays at home as the team plays host to Columbia (SC.) College (2-2-2 overall, 0-2-1 AAC) at 6 pm on Wednesday.
