Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau bats continued to propel the team to success with a sweep of Columbia (SC) College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday.
The Golden Tigers scored ten runs on ten hits in the opening game to down the visiting Koalas 10-0 in five innings. Junior Cayden Warren slugged her third home run of the season and junior Ava Moon added three RBIs in the rout. Junior Dayton Power stole three bases and fellow junior Peyton Hawkins went 2-2 with 2 RBIs.
Starting pitcher Riley Walker threw four shutout innings to earn the win, while senior Maggie Furr pitched one inning of scoreless relief. The two combined to hold Columbia (16-14 overall, 4-10 AAC) to only three hits in the game.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Golden Tigers continued to swing the bats well as the squad completed the sweep with a 11-3 win.
Hawkins continued the hit parade with three more RBIs, while Warren, Riley Smith, and Malorie Watson each added 2 RBIs in the victory.
Walker added to her stellar day on the mount by earning her ninth win of the season. The Toccoa, Ga. freshman pitched six innings and allowed only two earned runs to close out the doubleheader.
Brenau (16-8 overall, 7-1 AAC) hits the road on Tuesday to take on Truett McConnell (Ga.) (18-7 overall, 7-1 AAC) in a conference doubleheader starting at 4 pm.
