Softball Slugs Way Past Milligan to Open AAC Competition
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team got off to a strong start in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a sweep of the Milligan (Tn.) Buffaloes.
In the opening game, the Golden Tigers pounded out 12 hits and starting pitcher Riley Walker held the Buffaloes to only two runs to cruise to a 6-2 victory. Sophomore Emma Folds led the offensive with a perfect 3-3 game with 1 RBI and 2 stolen bases, while junior Ava Moon went 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Cayden Warren, Charlotte Smith, and Whitney Hulsey also each chipped in an RBI in the win.
Walker pitched a complete game and allowed only 2 runs on 6 hits to earn her sixth win of the season.
The Brenau bats continued to slug away in the nightcap as the squad mashed 14 hits en route 9-2 win to sweep the doubleheader.
The third inning proved to be the Buffaloes' undoing as the Golden Tigers scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning to break open the game. Allie Busbee went 3-3 with 2 RBIs, and teammate Riley Smith added 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Dayton Power chipped in an RBI and 2 steals, while Peyton Hawkins added 2 hits and an RBI.
Brenau starter Emily Hall continued the strong pitching performances by holding Milligan (11-7 overall, 8-2 AAC) in check with a 7-inning shutout.
Brenau (11-7 overall,2-0 AAC) next plays host to Bluefield (Va.) (2-18 overall, 1-5 AAC) in AAC competition. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm eastern on Tuesday.
