Gulf Shores, Alabama- The Brenau softball team closed out the second day of the Gulf Shores Invitational with a 3-2 win over St. Ambrose (IA) and a 5-2 loss to Lindsey Wilson (KY).
In the first game, St. Ambrose took an early first inning 1-0 lead, however, Brenau starting pitcher Riley Walker shut down the Fighting Bees (8-8 overall) by allowing only one more run over seven innings to take the win. The Golden Tigers capitalized on four St. Ambrose errors and sophomore Emma Folds, and seniors Riley Smith and Charlotte Smith each posted RBIs for a 3-2 victory. Junior Peyton Hawkins also posted two hits in the win.
Against Lindsey Wilson, the Golden Tigers took an early 2-1 lead behind RBIs from Moon and junior Breanne Brookshire. However, the Blue Raiders rallied with four runs in the third inning to win 5-2. Brenau struggled to generate offense as Lindsey Wilson held the squad to a season-low two hits.
Brenau (9-7 overall) next takes a trip to Johnson (TN) (7-7 overall, 2-2 AAC) to open AAC competition. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm eastern on Tuesday.
