Cross Country Places Fifth at Piedmont Invitational
The Brenau University cross country team placed fifth at the Piedmont Invitational (6K) on Saturday in Demorest.
The team ran at total time of 2:21.20 with an average runner time of 28:16 to finish ahead of Emory and Henry (Va.) College, Maryville (Tenn.) College, Salem (NC) College and LaGrange (GA.) College.
Host Piedmont won the meet with a total time of 2:08, while Pfeiffer (NC) University and Covenant (Tenn.) College rounded out the top three.
Michelle Velazquez paced the Golden Tigers with a 14th place finish out of 69 runners. The sophomore ran a 26:22 in the 6K event with an average 7:04 mile pace. Fellow sophomore Nia Griffin finished 26th overall in 27:33 and with a 7:23 average mile time. Monika Nwajei placed 31st in 28:35, while freshman Sydney Romine finished 35th overall with a time of 29:07. Other Brenau finishers included Giovanna Sifontes (41st place overall/29:40), Anazjah Mayes (47th/30:22), Elizabeth Lowe (58th/33:24) and Felicia Gordon (68th/41.17).
Brenau next races at the Berry College Invitational in Rome, Georgia on October 15th.
