Cross Country Inks Two for 2016
The Brenau cross country team announces the signing of Giovanna Sifontes and Scola Jemurgor to the 2016-17 team.
Sifontes, the daughter of Saron and Alberto Sifontes, was a standout cross country and track runner at Flowery Branch High School in Flowery Branch, Georgia for head coaches Richard Ramsey and Jimmy Sorrells.
While at Flowery Branch, the Maracay, Venezuela native ran personal bests of a 21:11 5K time, a 12:02 3200 meter time, a 6:05 mile time and a 2:41 800 time.
When asked about her commitment to Brenau, the Pre-Nursing major said, "I picked Brenau because of the coaches who will help me achieve my goals and help push me to succeed, as well as the small campus that makes me feel at home in a great community. I feel confident that Brenau was the right choice."
According to head coach Heather Estetter, "Giovanna is a very dedicated individual that we know will be a strong member of the Brenau Cross Country and Track and Field teams. She is an athlete that has so much untapped talent, and I believe there are no limits to what she can achieve in here career here at Brenau."
Jemurgor, the second signee for head coach Heather Estetter, is a native of Eldoret, Kenya who attended the Lorento Convent Girls' Secondary School.
Jemurgor is the daughter of Esther Mutai Banan and Joseph Banan and ran for Coach Evans Maraba. She has personal bests of 17:05 in the 5K and 10:35 in the 3K.
"Scola will be a force on the national scene," said Estetter." She is a highly motivated, self-driven, aggressive and determined runner that never backs down and always fights through the finish line."
