Cross Country Shows Well at Sand Shark Invitational
In their final tune up before the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships, the Brenau women's cross country team finished well at the Sand Shark Invitational in Beaufort, South Carolina on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers finished 14th out of 28 teams as the squad wrapped up their regular season slate. Senior Deishane' Honeycutt led Brenau with a 43rd overall finish in 19:48, while fellow senior Jasmine Ray finished 63rd overall in 20:13. Tyana Luna placed 89th overall in 20:48, and freshman Michelle Velazquez ran 92nd with a time of 20:55. Other finishers include Monika Nwajei (22:19), Ismaelle Occeus (23:54) and Felicia Gordon (26:34).
Shawnee State (OH) University won the meet with a team average of 18:31, while Embry Riddle (Fla.) University placed second.
"This was the third week that we were on a 50 mile training schedule and the team is responding as expected," said head coach Heather Estetter. "I am excited to drop their mileage and get them to peak at the conference meet."
"Conference is right around the corner and I'm very proud of the work ethic in this group of young ladies."
Brenau next travels to the SSAC Championships in Clinton, Mississippi on November 6th.
