Cross Country Places Fifth at Furman
Fresh off their first place showing at the Piedmont (Ga.) Invitational last weekend, the Brenau cross country team placed fifth in a heavily competitive field at the Furman University-Gene Mullin Invitational in Spartanburg, SC on Saturday.
Brenau finished with an average time of 21:41.42 and as the second place NAIA program in the meet. Host and NCAA Division I program Furman (S.C.) University placed first, while Georgia Tech placed second. NAIA and #19 ranked Milligan (Tenn.) College edged out the Golden Tigers, finishing third, while NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb (N.C.) University placed fourth.
NCAA Division I North Carolina A&T University finished fifth, while Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University, Piedmont (Ga.) College, Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University, Converse (S.C.) College and Maryville (Tenn.) College rounded out the field.
"We raced against two major Division I schools (Furman and Georgia Tech) and finished close behind nationally-ranked Milligan," said head coach Heather Estetter. "Although at this point in the season we aren't focusing on time, but we are now set to peak at the conference meet [in November]."
Brenau next races on October 24th at the Asics Sand Shark Invitational in Hardeeville, S.C. before heading to the SSAC championships in Clinton, Mississippi.
