Cross Country Finishes 9th at Sand Shark Invitational
The Brenau Golden Tigers cross country team finished 9th out of 21 teams at the Sand Shark Cross Country Invitational hosted by University of South Carolina Beaufort on Saturday.
Junior Brittney Aikens (Braselton, GA) led the Golden Tigers with a time of 19:19 and an overall 26th place finish. Freshman Natalie Williams put on a strong performance with a time of 19:41 and a 39th place finish. The Dalton, GA freshman finished with a time in the 19's for the first time in her running career. Sophomore Utami Ketchem (Flowery Branch, GA) finished third for the team in a time of 19:47 and 46th overall. Fellow sophomore Deishane' Honeycutt (Stone Mountain, GA) also pushed hard and earned her first finish in the 19's by running 19:53. Rounding out the top five was sophomore Tyana Luna (Lawrenceville, GA) who finished in the 20's for the second week in a row.
The young Golden Tigers had nine underclassmen set personal records at the meet, including Jasmine Ray (20:43), Monika Nwajei (21:26), Aunica Clinton (21:37), Ismaelle Occeus (22:02) and Anazjah Mayes (23:01).
"Saturday we made history for the Brenau Cross Country team by having four ladies finish in the 19's at a single invitational," said head coach Susan McIntyre. "Last year we had one runner finish in the 18's and one runner finish in the 19's in a single race".
The Golden Tigers will race at the SSAC meet in Choctaw, MS on November 9th in their last team meet of the season, and will feature their lone senior, Ana Lopera (Flowery Branch, GA), in her last collegiate race.
