SSAC Announces Cross Country Championship Results
Emmanuel Men, Lee Women Crowned 2012 Cross Country Champions

Norcross, Ga. - Earlier, the 2012 SSAC Cross Country Championships took place included 89 male and 91 female participants. As posted earlier, the men's team top three finishers were Emmanuel, Lee, and Southern Wesleyan. On the women's side, Lee, Southern Wesleyan, and Emmanuel finished one, two, and three. The individual winners were Joash Osoro from William Carey on the men's side and Erica Segars representing Southern Wesleyan for the women.
On the women's side, Lee edged out Southern Wesleyan for the team title. The Lady Flames finished with an overall team time of 1:40:59.48 and a total score of 72. The five top finishers for Lee placed 3rd, 4th, 11th, 26th, and 28th. Southern Wesleyan finished the 5k with a team time of 1:41:15.56 and a total score of 78. The Warrior's top finishers placed 1st, 5th, 21st, 22nd, and 29th. Both Lee University and Southern Wesleyan will receive an automatic berth to the 2012 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship.
Individually, Erica Segars out of Southern Wesleyan claimed the top spot with a 5k time of 19:08.50. Segars narrowly defeated the second place runner by a margin of 3.89 seconds, with an impressive homestretch finish. Brittany Aikens of Brenau completed the 5k in 19:12.39 to claim second. Lee's Cayce Bryan and Jessica Childers claimed third and fourth place with times of 19:24.89 and 19:34.46. The women will send seven individual runners to the 2012 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship. Those runners are the top seven individuals, excluding the top two teams, and within the top 20 finishers. Brittany Aikens (BRN), Andrea Langley (EMN), Annie Hills (LOY), Kayla Byrd (WCU), Emily Dolan (SHC), Iryine Chelangat (BPC), and Payton Tanner (SHC).
