Brenau Just TRIs It
GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Golden Tigers were well represented this past weekend, when the cross country, swimming, and tennis teams joined efforts with the Habitat for Humanity of Hall County. Saturday, September 3rd, marked the 3rd annual Just TRI It fundraising triathlon, which took place at the American Legion (located at the end of Riverside Drive).
Athletes of all ages were invited to compete in this event, in the hopes to promote such a worthy cause. The entry fee each person paid would help to fund future projects, allowing Habitat for Humanity to continue putting roofs over people's heads.
The participants ranged from young children to young-at-heart elders, along with a mix of relay teams. The day's event was organized into four waves, three were provided for the adult race, while the final wave was reserved for the youth competitors. The adult's race included swimming 500 yards, biking 20 miles, and running 5 miles, where as the youth participants were active in a 100 yard swim, biking 5 miles, and running half a mile.
The Brenau coaches/alumni team placed 3rd overall, in the relays category.
The swim team was stationed in the water to assist and direct all the swimmers in the open course of Lake Lanier, while the cross country team and tennis team covered the cycling course. Over the course of the day, many spectators commented how the Brenau athletes made their experience memorable. They helped to make Just TRI It a success for the third consecutive year!
Head Swim Coach, Blair Bachman, commented, "This was our second year volunteering with Habitat for Humanity's triathlon and we were inspired by all the participants competing. Brenau's swimming, cross country and tennis teams embodied the essence of a Golden Tiger, by giving of their time and energy to benefit a non-profit that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness. We are proud to be a part of this event and look forward to many more opportunities to support this cause."
