Volleyball Edges Past Milligan in Five Sets; WIns Third Consecutive AAC Match
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau volleyball team defeated Milligan (Tenn.) University in five sets (23-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-20, 15-6) to capture the squad's third consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference match on Friday.
After falling to visiting Buffs (2-16 overall, 1-5 AAC) in a close first set, the squad rallied with a commanding 25-16 second set victory to even the sets at one apiece. The two teams again traded the third and fourth sets to send the match into the deciding fifth set.
In the final stanza, the Golden Tigers seized the momentum and outhit the Buffs .350-.000 to cruise to a 15-6 win to clinch the match.
Brenau posted a strong offensive night as the squad posted a .318 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter Claire Beckman contributed an outstanding all-around performance with 10 kills and a stellar 9 blocks. Fellow juniors Hannah Werner and Ashlyn Browning led the offensive attack with 14 and 13 kills, respectively, with Browning also adding 14 digs defensively.
Setter Nathalia Quintero led the team with 38 assists and added nine kills to the win, while libero Jomaris Maldonado led the defensive effort with 16 digs. Freshman Alyssa Evans also contributed 8 kills and 10 digs.
WIth the victory, the squad evens its overall record to 7-7 on the season and pushes its AAC record to 4-2.
The Golden Tigers next with a trip to Columbia (SC.) College (2-13 overall, 2-4 AAC) on Tuesday at 6:30 pm eastern for an AAC road conference matchup.
