Volleyball Takes Two on Final Day of Running Eagles Classic
Marietta, Georgia- The Brenau Golden Tigers finished day two of the Life University Running Eagles Classic with two wins as the squad earned wins over Talladega (Ala.) and Warner (Fla.) on Saturday.
Against Talladega (0-3 overall), the Golden Tigers narrowly won the first set, 25-22, but overwhelmed the Tornadoes 25-7 in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. Propelled by junior Hannah Werner's game-high 12 kills, the squad won the third set 25-14 to win the opening game of the day.
Middle hitter Claire Beckman added 10 kills, while junior Jomaris Maldonado added 11 digs.
Brenau outhit Talladega .307 to .027 in kill percentage for the match.
In the final game of the weekend, the squad outlasted Warner (2-2 overall) 3-2 (25-23, 12-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-12) to earn the squad's third victory of the weekend.
Freshman Alyssa Evans notched a career-best 18 kills, while junior Ashlyn Browning added 16 kills and chipped in 15 digs for the Golden Tigers' attack.
Defensively, Maldonado had a career-high 26 digs, while Browning added 15 digs. Junior setter Nathalia Quintero had a solid all-around performance with 39 assists and 14 digs.
Brenau (3-1 overall) will next compete at the Truett McConnell Invitational as the team will play Life (Ga.) University (1-1 overall), Point (Ga.) University (2-4 overall) and AAC foe Bryan (Tenn.) College (0-4 overall) on August 29th.
