Marietta, Georgia- The Brenau Golden Tigers opened the 2025 season by splitting a pair of games at the Life University Running Eagles Classic on Friday.
In the opening match, the Golden Tigers edged past Webber (Fla.) International 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23) to capture the first win under new head coach Patrick Nicholas.
Junior Hannah Werner led a strong offensive attack with 15 kills, while fellow junior Ashlyn Browning notched 13 kills in the win. Middle hitter Claire Beckman added 10 kills and junior setter Nathalia Quintero added 44 assists.
Defensively, junior Jomaris Maldonado and senior Dallas Morse added 18 and 13 digs respectively, while Browning added 10 digs to her all-around strong play.
The Golden Tigers outhit the Warriors (1-3 overall) .266 to .148 in the match to earn the win.
In the nightcap, Florida College (2-4 overall) slipped past the Golden Tigers 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) to wrap up day one of competition.
Werner led the squad with 9 kills.
Brenau (1-1 overall) will pick up play on Saturday with matches versus Talledega (Ala.) College at 11 am eastern and Warner (Fla.) University at 3:00 eastern.
