Yellow Jackets Sweep Volleyball in Three Sets
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau volleyball team lost in three sets (28-30, 14-25, 20-25) to Allen University in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening.
In a thrilling first set, neither squad led by more than two points as the back and forth battle lasted throughout the period. With the score tied at 24-24, freshman Sydney Norton hit a service ace to give the Golden Tigers a 25-24 advantage. However, the visiting Yellow Jackets scored two straight points, including a kill by Johnquanek Spencer, to regain a 26-25 advantage.
The Golden Tigers responded as Nicole Ighile notched one of her six kills to tie the match at 26-26; however, the lead was short-lived as the Yellow Jackets' Tai Draper gave the visitors another one-point advantage. A kill by Brenau's Taylor Moses and an Allen attack error allowed the home team to regain the lead 28-27, but the Yellow Jackets rallied to score the final three points to close out the set 30-28.
In the second and third set, the Golden Tigers could not regain momentum as the Yellow Jackets closed out the remaining sets 25-14 and 25-20.
Brenau (2-21 overall, 1-11 AAC) travels to Columbia International University (10-12 overall, 4-6 AAC) for a 6:30 pm matchup in Columbia, S.C.
