Volleyball Splits to Open 2017 Season

The Brenau volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a split at the Faulkner Invitational hosted by Faulkner University on Friday in Montgomery, Alabama.

In the opening match, the Golden Tigers faced stiff opposition against Southeastern (Fla.) University falling 25-14, 25-14, 25-13.

Freshman Karlee Moss led the squad with eight kills, while fellow newcomer Atiana Lewis added six kills.

In the afternoon match, the young Brenau squad rallied after losing the first set to knock off William Carey (Miss.) College 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18, and 16-14 for their first win of the season.

Moss again led the attack with 13 kills and 12 digs, while junior Haley Ponder added 12 kills. Setter Savannah Wilbanks notched 42 assists and 16 digs. Freshman Savannah Combs chipped in 22 digs.

Brenau (1-1 overall) continues at the Invitational on Saturday with matches against Webber (Fla.) International and University of Mobile (Ala.) (RV) at 10 am and 4 pm eastern time, respectively.
