Volleyball Storms Past William Carey
The Brenau volleyball team defeated William Carey (Miss.) University in five sets to secure their first Southern States Athletic Conference match on Thursday in Hattiesburg.
After storming to a 25-19 first set victory, the Golden Tigers edged out a second set win 25-23 for a 2-0 lead. The host Crusaders responded with two consecutive set wins, 19-25 and 20-25, to tie up the match; however, the Golden Tigers showed resiliency in the final frame, winning 15-11 to earn their first SSAC victory of the season.
Senior Allie Smith led the Golden Tigers with 12 kills, while fellow senior Pam Konken added 11 kills. Savannah Wilbanks notched a career and season high 43 assists, while Carlee Praznik chipped in 20 digs.
"The team played well tonight," said head coach Michael Carter. "Our serving was very good, which contributed to the victory. Carlee [Praznik] also had a great game in serve and receive."
Brenau (3-10 overall, 1-4 SSAC) next takes on Loyola (La.) University tonight at 7:00 pm in New Orleans.
