Volleyball Garners SSAC Awards
Six members of the Brenau volleyball team were honored in the 2015 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Volleyball Postseason Awards at the SSAC Volleyball Awards Banquet in Montgomery, Alabama on Thursday.
Sydney Koon was selected by the SSAC coaches as a first-team All-Conference selection for her play during the 2015 season. Koon, a native of John's Creek, Ga, leads the team in kills (412) and is second in digs (355). The senior is also ranked 29th nationally in kills per game (3.710) and 39th in total kills. Koon is a repeat honoree as she was also a 2012 second team selection and a 2014 first team selection.
Cayla Graham was also voted as a second team SSAC performer by the conference coaches. The sophomore was ranked 23rd nationally in aces per game (0.490) and was ranked second on the team in kills (254) and third in digs (229). Graham is a repeat selection as she was honored as both a second team and All-Freshman team selection in 2014.
Tiffany Ozieh joins her teammate Graham as the second SSAC second team All-Conference performer. Ozieh, a sophomore from Duluth, Ga, was third in kills (144) and first in blocks (76) for the Golden Tigers.
The SSAC also recognized junior Allie Smith as the Brenau University Champions of Character recipient. Recipients are selected as best representatives of the NAIA core values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Graham and Smith were joined by Bailey Hicks and Pam Konken on the SSAC All-Academic team. All-Academic members must have attended at least two semesters of college, attained 24 semester hours and hold a grade point average of 3.25 of higher.
"I'm proud of our players that were selected for these awards," said head coach Michael Carter. "Their hard work, dedication and drive to compete is evident in their play and performances. As with any individual awards, nothing would be possible without great teammates to pull it all together and the entire team can be proud of these accomplishments.
