Volleyball Opens At Lindsey Wilson Classic
The Brenau volleyball team opened the season at the Lindsey Wilson Classic in Columbia, Kentucky with an uneven performance, finishing 1-3 on the weekend.
In the first match against Campbellsville (Ky.) University, the Golden Tigers won the opening frame 25-23, but dropped the second set 25-21. Campbellsville ran away with the third set 25-13 and squeaked out the fourth set 25-23 to secure the match.
Senior Sydney Koon notched 10 kills in the match, while Sophomore Cayla Graham added nine. Junior Pam Konken added 18 assists.
Against Indiana University-Kokomo, Brenau again stormed out to an early 25-19 first set win. However, much like the first match against Campbellsville, the Golden Tigers were unable to sustain momentum and lost the final three sets- 25-19, 25-14, 25-19.
Graham led with 14 kills, while Konken and Bailey Hicks notched 14 saves each.
On Saturday, the Golden Tigers found their rhythm against Cumberland (Tenn.) University for their first win of the season.
After opening the match with a 25-18 win, Brenau slipped again in the second set 18-25. However, the squad held fast in the third set with a 27-25 win, and finished off the Bulldogs in the fourth set 25-19.
Graham led the team with 18 kills, while Koon added 14. Hicks contributed 21 assists to the win.
In the final match of the tournament, Brenau was swept by University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 23-25, 20-25, 11-25.
Brenau (1-3, 0-0 SSAC) next hits the road on September 4 when they travel to the Faulkner Classic in Montgomery, Alabama to take on Southern University at New Orleans (La.).
