Volleyball Splits Against Mobile and Loyola
The Brenau volleyball team split this weekend in SSAC play as the Golden Tigers dropped a match to University of Mobile (Ala.), but regained form by defeating Loyola (La.) University in straight sets.
Against Mobile, the Golden Tigers lost the first two sets 15-25 and 13-25 and found themselves in an 0-2 deficit. Brenau rallied to keep the third set close, but were unable to complete the comeback.
"We played a very tough team tonight in a hostile environment," said head coach Michael Carter. "While the scores may not reflect the outcome we want, we are getting better each time we step on the court".
Brenau struggled to finish points, producing a 0.050 attack percentage. Sydney Koon led the Golden Tigers with six kills. Rachel Adam and Jasmine Jones added five kills each. Chelsea Foster added 15 assists.
In the second game of the road trip, Brenau improved their play by sweeping Loyola 25-21, 26-24, 25-18.
Adam led the Golden Tigers with 11 kills, while Koon added 11 kills. Freshman Cayla Graham added 10 kills to the victory. Foster and Pam Konken combined for 36 assists.
"While we started out slowly, we were able to stay consistent enough to allow for small changes and improvements throughout the game," said Carter. "It was a good effort by the team and a great conference win".
Brenau (6-6, 3-2 SSAC) next takes on non-conference opponent Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 7 pm eastern in Gainesville.
