Volleyball Wraps Up Day Two of Mariner Invitational
On day two of the Mariner Invitational, the Brenau volleyball team split games as the Golden Tigers lost against Faulkner (Ala.) University but overwhelmed Marygrove (MI) College for a win.
Against Faulkner, the Golden Tigers took game one with a 25-23 win. The Eagles responded with a 25-15 win in set two and slipped by Brenau 27-25 in game three. In the deciding fourth set, the Golden Tigers were unable to hold on and lost 25-17.
Sydney Koon led Brenau with 19 kills and 19 digs, while Cayla Graham added 12 kills and 14 digs. Lindsay Kelly added 17 digs. Setters Chelsea Foster and Bailey Hicks combined for 45 assists.
In the night cap, the Golden Tigers jumped out to a 25-15 win in the opening set versus Marygrove. Brenau went ahead 10-4 in the second set, but Marygrove rallied to take the set 25-21.
After taking an early 7-3 lead in the third set, Brenau allowed the Mustangs to go ahead 13-13. The Golden Tigers rallied to take a 19-14 lead and closed out the match 25-19.
In game four, the Golden Tigers led the entire set and closed out the match with a 29-27 win.
Koon contributed 17 kills and 18 digs, while fellow senior Rachel Adam added 11 kills. Jasmine Jones added 11 kills to the victory.
Both Adam and Koon were selected to the Mariner Invitational All-Tournament team for their performances.
Brenau (2-2) next travels to Agnes Scott (Ga.) College on Wednesday for a 7 pm non-conference match.
