The Brenau Golden Tigers volleyball team split their weekend matches on the road with a win against Brewton-Parker College and a loss against College of Coastal Georgia.
Against Brewton Parker, the Golden Tigers won 3-0 in three straight sets, 25-5, 25-17, 25-13. Offensively, Ellen Lemos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led all scorers with 11 kills, followed by Marcella Toups (8 kills), Rachel Adam (6 kills), and Pam Konken (4 kills). On the defensive side, Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, GA) led the team with 16 digs and 2 service aces, while Lemos and Konken (Stockbridge, GA) combined for 21 digs to have a strong match in the back row. Adam (Athens, GA) continued her dominance at the net with 4 blocks, but was unable to continue due to injury.
On Saturday night, Brenau faced a tough and talented College of Coastal Georgia team and were defeated 3-0 in three sets, 25-15, 25-14, 30-28. For the Golden Tigers, Ellen Lemos had 9 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces, Marcella Toups (Morris, IL) and Pamela Konken added 7 kills each and Courtney Deason had 20 assists. Lindsay Kelly and Ellen Lemos had 10 and 7 digs. The team could not stop the Mariners, allowing Kara Neisen 17 kills, along with Holly Hammer and Amanda Kline with 10 each.
"It was an up and down weekend. Beating Brewton Parker was nice but Rachel Adam suffering an injury is a major setback. Then we ran into an excellent College of Coastal Georgia team and we were not ready to compete with them," said Coach Jeff White. "However, we gave them a tough time in the third set, going 30-28. We learned a lot about who we are and will make adjustments going into our next conference match on Tuesday against Faulkner."
The Golden Tigers are now 4-2 in Conference and 5-5 Overall. The next match is Tuesday at 7:00 at home against Faulkner University.
