Brenau Volleyball Unable To Match Emmanuel's Play
October 20, 2012
The Brenau volleyball team played a tough Emmanuel team on Friday night and was unable to overcome some key injuries and excellent play by the visiting team.
Sydney Koon (Johns Creek, Ga.) went down with a leg injury and coupled
with Rachel Adam's (Athens, Ga.) recent ankle injury made a tough situation for
the Golden Tigers.
Emmanuel's sprinted out to a quick first set victory and
although Brenau played tough in the second and third sets, the Lions prevailed
in three sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-23.
Ellen Lemos ( Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the
Golden Tigers with 12 kills, added 11 digs and earned an attack percentage of
0.273. Melissa Thornton of (Woodstock, Ga.) added seven kills and 11 digs,
Danelle Russell (Cartersville, Ga.) had six kills and eight digs playing as a
middle hitter for the injured Koon, and libero Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, Ga.)
contributed five kills and five digs as an outside hitter. Devony Hemingway (Salemburg,
N.C.) was solid with three kills, three digs, and three blocks.
Brenau are now 4-7 in SSAC play and
13-9 overall. The next match is on Oct. 20 against Southern Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
when the Golden Tigers will celebrate Senior Night.
Coach White "I am so proud of the effort of our players, especially the way they
overcome adversity and keep playing hard. When two starting players go down to
injury, both middle hitters, we are forced to place players in unfamiliar roles.
Our athletes have proven they are comfortable in uncomfortable situations. They
are truly tough young women."
