Columbia Rallies Past Brenau
COLUMBIA, Sc - The Golden Tigers volleyball team was on the road again, this evening, as they competed against Columbia College. The Fighting Koalas entered the match with a 15-9 overall record (7-4 AAC), while Brenau was 10-11 overall (3-7 SSAC).
The first set of the match was filled with adrenaline and intensity, with the Golden Tigers in a constant rally with the Koalas. Columbia College managed to take the first set from Brenau, along with the momentum. The Golden Tigers lost in three sets 32-34, 11-25, 13-25.
It was evident, by the score of the first set that both teams battled for possession of the ball. As a team, the Golden Tigers earned more kills in the set, 17-15, but the Koalas took offensive control for the remainder of the match.
Senior Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC) continued to be a dominate force at the net, for Brenau. She ended the night with 13 kills, 1 assist, 5 digs, and 2 stuff blocks. Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) proved to be a double threat, as she collected 10 kills and 14 digs. Rookie Rachel Adam (Athens, GA) also battled on the net, contributing 6 kills and 2 blocks to the Golden Tigers.
Mekenna Cipres (Murrieta, CA) led with 15 assists, while also earning 1 kill, 1 service ace, and 5 digs. Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL) rallied against the Koalas, and totaled 10 assists, 3 kills, and 11 digs.
The Brenau University volleyball team, with an overall record of 10-12, will host Oglethorpe University this Thursday, October 13th. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
