Brenau Falls to LaGrange in Five Sets

LAGRANGE, Ga - The Brenau University volleyball team traveled to LaGrange College, on Friday afternoon, to match up against the Lady Panthers for the second time this season. LaGrange met the Golden Tigers with intensity, and defeated them in a five set match, with the scores of 25-22, 19-25, 23-25, 25-10, and 13-15.
The Lady Panthers were on a winning streak, winning 4 consecutive matches, and this improved their overall record to 11-9. Brenau had gained momentum, by winning 2 key conference matches back to back, however this loss brought the Golden Tigers record to 10-11(3-7 SSAC).
Senior middle blocker, Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC), was on fire yesterday, as she recorded a season high of 21 kills, 4 digs, and 6 blocks. Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) played a great game from the outside, collecting 11 kills, 10 digs, and 4 blocks. Rachel Adam (Athens, GA) proved to be a threat at the net, earning double digits for the night, with 10 kills and 10 blocks.
Danelle Russel (Cartersville, GA) earned 7 kills, 9 digs, and 5 blocks, for the evening. Mekenna Cipres (Murrieta, CA) set the tempo of the offense, earning 25 assists, along with 5 kills, 3 digs, and 4 blocks. Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL) recorded 21 assists, 2 kills, 2 digs, and 3 service aces against the Lady Panthers.
The Golden Tigers will be back in action this Tuesday, October 11th, as they travel to Columbia College. The match is schedule for 7pm.
