The Lady Rams Charge Past the Tigers

GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Golden Tigers volleyball team is hosting the SSAC Crossover Tournament. Several East and West Division teams came to compete, including: Spring Hill College, Loyola University, University of Mobile, Emmanuel College, and Southern Wesleyan University.

Brenau played their first match of the tournament Friday evening, against the University of Mobile. The Golden Tigers put up a fight, but fell to the Lady Rams in four sets, 23-25, 17-25, 28-26, and 25-16. After battling with Mobile, they now dropped to an overall record of 8-8 (1-5 SSAC).

"We were neck and neck with them for most of the game", commented Coach Meredith Franklin, "but we our missing the intensity that we need to play with."

Outsider Hitters, Danelle Russell (Cartersville, GA) and Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, Ga) blazed the way offensively, for the Golden Tigers. Russel led the team with 10 kills, 12 digs, 1 assist, and 1 service ace, while Thornton earned 9 kills, 12 digs, 1 block, and 1 service ace.

Senior Alexis Arthur (Aikens, SC) contributed 7 kills, 11 digs, 1 block, and 1 service ace to the Golden Tigers. Mekenna Cipres (Murrieta, CA) came in with 6 kills, 17 assists, and 13 digs for the night, with Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL) also earning 17 assists.

Brenau is scheduled to play Spring Hill College at 11:00am and Loyola University at 5:00pm on Saturday, October 1st, the final day of the SSAC Crossover Tournament.
