#6 Lee Burns Brenau, in 3 Sets
GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Golden Tigers volleyball team was host to #6 Lee University, Wednesday evening. The Lady Flames defeated Brenau in three straight sets, 25-21, 26-24, and 25-15.
Lee took the lead quickly in the first set, but the Golden Tigers continued to rally back and forth with them. Brenau managed to tie the game up at the 15 point mark; however the Lady Flames made a momentum building kill, and established a lead once more.
The second set proved to be an entirely different game, as Lee seemed to be the team trailing for the majority of the game. The Golden Tigers had a strong lead 22-17, but with a few defensive mistakes, the Lady Flames took the opportunity to tie the game up 24-24, and earned the final 2 points to win 26-24.
"Our team demonstrated just how talented we really are, but we need to build our confidence a little more. No matter the score, no matter the team.we must play to win, meaning that we are not afraid to make an aggressive mistake," stated Coach Meredith Franklin. "As a team, we struggled to get back into the third set...after experiencing a let down in the prior set."
Senior middle, Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC), led the Golden Tigers with 13 kills, 14 digs, and 5 blocks. Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) collected 10 kills from the outside, along with 11 digs and 1 block. Rachel Adam (Athens, GA) contributed by earning 5 kills and 4 blocks.
Mekenna Cipres (Murrieta, CA) earned 17 assists, with Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL) adding 12 more. Fresheman Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, GA) played tremendous defense in the match, as she collected 11 digs.
After the match, Brenau dropped to a record of 8-4 (1-2 in SSAC). They will be traveling to Brewton Parker College on Friday, where they will play @ 7:00pm.
