The Golden Tigers Earn Their Stripes

ATLANTA, Ga - The Golden Tigers volleyball team competed against Clark Atlanta University, Tuesday evening. The Lady Panthers were on the prowl, and gave Brenau quite a battle. The Golden Tigers proved to be persistent, as they came back and won the decisive fifth set. Brena defeated Clark Atlanta 25-12, 19-25, 23-35, 25-22, and 15-7.

"We played great in some sets, during the game, where we were unstoppablebut then we would return to the court and play sloppy", stated Coach Meredith Franklin. "Our main two goals for the season were to be aggressive and consistent. As a group, we have met these goals at times, but if we get distracted we loose all momentum we have createdwhich is what took place in this match, several times."

Mekenna Cipres (Murrieta, CA) led the team in hitting percentage, with .269, as she totaled 12 kills for the night; she also earned 19 assists, 5 digs, and 3 blocks. Senior setter, Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL) collected an impressive 30 assists, along with 5 kills and 4 digs.

Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) collected 15 kills, 5 service aces, 24 digs, and 3 blocks. Danelle Russell (Cartersville, GA) and Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC) were tied again for 10 kills a piece. Russell went on to earn 10 digs and 2 assists, while Arthur totaled 3 assists, 1 service ace, 23 digs, and 4 blocks.

As the Brenau University volleyball team advances to an overall record of 8-3 (1-1 in SSAC), they immediately return to the court on Wednesday, September 21st, when they host Lee University @ 7:00pm.
