Golden Tigers Overwhelm the Lady Panthers

GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Brenau University volleyball team competed against Clark Atlanta University yesterday evening, and pulled out their 4th straight win of the season. At this time, the Golden Tigers have defeated all their opponents in 3 sets, and last night was no different as they won 25-17, 25-19, 25-15.

Earlier in the match, both teams were vying for every point. However, once the Golden Tigers warmed up at the 10-point mark, the home team took the lead and ran with it. Setter, Mekenna Cipres (Murietta, CA), had an impressive night at the net. She collected 6 kills, as she recorded a .600 hitting%, along with 16 assists, 3 service aces, and 2 blocks. Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) led the team from the outside, once again; she took home 13 kills, 6 digs, 4 blocks, along with an assist and ace.

Freshman middle, Rachel Adam (Athens, GA) was a constant force throughout the game, collecting 9 kills and 3 blocks. Junior outside, Danelle Russell (Cartersville, GA), ended the night with 6 kills, 2 aces, 9 digs, and a single assist.

Coach Franklin stated, "We are a small team, in numbers, but we are fortunate to have such well-rounded athletes. Throughout the night we moved players into different positions, and were still able to perform at a high level of intensity."

Seniors Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC ) and Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL)had a solid performance against the Lady Panthers. Arthur battled at the net and in the back row, earning 5 kills, 2 blocks, and 8 digs, while Abernathy collected 3 kills, 20 assists, and 4 digs.

Coach Franklin went on to add, "This team has limitless potential, and we have only begun to scratch the surface. We will continue to grow, and improve, throughout the yearand I am truly excited to see what this season brings for us."

As the Golden Tigers advance to an overall record 4-0, they prepare to face off against former conference rival, Columbia College. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7th at 7pm.
