Track and Field Competes at NAIA Nationals
Mobile, Alabama- Members of the Brenau track and field team competed at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium on Thursday.
In the 200 meter run, freshman Tamia Francis ran a time of 24.78 in her first national championship appearance. The Snellville, Ga. native placed 13th out of 23 competitors after capturing top honors at the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship meet in late April. Francis finished only 0.28 seconds from advancing to the finals.
Francis also anchored the 4x100 relay as she joined fellow freshmen Shakera Thompson and Myia Neal and sophomores Jasmine Reese and Kanyisola Anjorin to an 11th place finish at the championships. The squad was a mere 0.34 seconds from qualifying for the finals.
"We showed some good performances and gained experience on the big stage," said head coach Byron Kramer. "The 4x100 team was one shaky handoff from making the finals and All-American status and Tamia Francis ran a personal best in the 200 and improved from her 20th seed to 14th."
"There is no substitute for competing at the highest level, so this will help in each athlete's continued development."
