Track Leads SSAC Championships After Day 1
The Brenau track team had a strong opening day at the Southern States Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Alabama.
After six events, the Golden Tigers placed among the top three in every event to accumulate a meet-high 77 points and a 49 point lead over Loyola (La.) University.
Brenau tallied 21 points in the shot put, behind an individual title from Aubrey Fearnow with a mark of 11.15 meters. Olamide Sokunbi in the triple jump (12.09 meters), Ayana Daniels in the pole vault (2.58 meters) and the 4x800 meter relay team (9:40.32) added individual titles for the Golden Tigers.
The reigning SSAC champions also had a pair of runner-up finishes from Fearnow in the javelin (32.22 meters) and Anita Button in the pole vault (2.43 meters).
Other Golden Tiger scorers include Sydney Haas (3rd place/shotput), Andrea Holloway (4th place/shotput) and Kayla Mitchell (5th place/javelin).
Competition continues on Saturday as the Golden Tigers look to winning their fourth straight SSAC Championship.
