Track Finishes Second At Oglethorpe
In a precursor to the Southern States Athletic Championships next week, the Brenau track and field team finished second in a strong second place showing at the Oglethorpe Invitational on Saturday in Atlanta.
The Golden Tigers set two national qualifying marks and amassed 190 points, finishing close behind event winner NCAA Division II University of West Georgia.
DeMichia Higgins (SO/Duluth, Ga.) placed third overall in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.31. Her time is currently the fifth fastest in the nation, which qualifies her for the national meet in Gulf Shores, Ala. in May. Deishane' Honeycutt (JR/Stone Mountain, Ga.) also qualified for the national meet with her winning time in the 400 hurdles (1:03.15). This time ranks her currently 12th in the nation. Honeycutt also placed seventh in the 100 hurdles (17:74).
The Golden Tigers had a three other first place finishers on the afternoon and a number of other outstanding performances.
Andrea Holloway (SR/Newnan, Ga.) won the javelin with a throw of 77'7", while also placing fifth in the shot put (30'5"). Yasmine Reynolds (FR/Quitman, Ga.) captured a first place finish, running 12.48 in the 100 meter dash. Reynolds also capped a solid day with a second place finish in the long jump (17'.6"). Hunter Creswell (JR/Calhoun, Ga.) also finished first in the pole vault (9'6").

Elena Oslund (JR/Albany, Ga.) - 2nd place, 1500 meter run (5:03.25);
Tyana Luna (JR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) - 4th place, 1500 meter run (5:33.15); 6th place, 5000 meter run (22:24.71);
Anazjah Mayes (SO/Lawrenceville, GA) - 4th place, 400 meter hurdles (1:07.70);
Jasmine Ray (JR/Bowling Green, Ky.) - 8th place, 400 meter hurdles (1:09.39);
Jasmine Steen (JR/Columbus, Ga) - 3rd place, long jump (16'4");
The Golden Tigers take a break for final exams before returning to the track for the SSAC Championships on April 24-25 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
