Track Finishes Third at Orange and Blue Classic
At the Savannah State Orange and Blue Classic, the Brenau track team broke three school records en route to a third place finish on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers earned 113 points and finished close behind first place Bethune-Cookman (Fla.) University and Jackson State (Miss.) University.
In the 800 meter run, Jasmine Ray (JR/Bowling Green, Ky.) finished in fourth place and set a new school record in 2:26.35. Elena Oslund also set a new school record in the 5000 meter run (19:05.24) and finished in third place. Oslund also had a strong second place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Katilyn Gearing added to the record setting day with a second place finish in the javelin (105'4.25''), which also set a new school record.
Other top-five finishers include:
Deishane' Honeycutt (JR/Stone Mountain, Ga.)-first place-400 meter hurdles;
Jasmine Jones (SO/Atlanta, GA)-second place-high jump;
Olamide Sokunbi (JR/Marietta, Ga.)-fourth place-100 meter dash;
DeMichia Higgins (SO/Duluth, Ga.)-third place-100 meter hurdles;
Aubrey Fearnow (JR/Arnoldsville, Ga.)-fifth place-discus;
Jasmine Ray-fourth place-3000 meter steeplechase;
"I am pleased to compete well this early in season," said head coach Rick Ludwig. "Everyone is doing well but understanding that we have a long way to go to be ready to compete for another conference championship. We had lots of good performances and also lots of areas that need improvement. I am excited to have two weeks to get ready for next meet."
The Golden Tigers return to the track on April 21st at the Emory (Ga.) Invitational.
