Track Shows Well at Cougar Invitational
The defending SSAC champion Brenau track team placed second out of six at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State (Ga.) University on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers amassed 103 points to finish close behind the host team. Clark Atlanta University finished in third with 78 points, while the University of Montevallo (Ala.) (74) and Georgia Regents University (72) rounded out the top five.
Brenau had two individual event champions as junior Dana Cole won the discus with a throw of 123' 3" and freshman Yasmine Reynolds captured the 200 meter crown in 25.45. Reynolds also finished sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.20.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Brianna Archer, Monika Nwajei, Anazjah Mayes and Deishane' Honeycutt also won their event in 1:08.20.
Individually, Archer placed fourth in the 400 meter dash, while Honeycutt placed second in the 400 hurdles and second in the 400 meter dash. Mayes also took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.

Kaitlyn Gearing – fourth place- javelin and seventh place- 100 meter hurdles;
Andrea Holloway – eighth place- javelin;
Elena Oslund – third place- 1500 meter run;
Lammy Sokunbi – third place- triple jump and third place-100 meter dash;
Jasmine Steen – fourth place-triple jump;
"I am very excited to see our veterans perform well and especially our newcomers- Brianna Archer, Yasmine Reynolds, Elena Oslund and Kaitlyn Gearing perform well," said head coach Rick Ludwig. "This was a great meet to see where we stand in many events. We have lots to do to be where we need by conference, but I am very pleased with our competitiveness and ferocity this early in the season."
The Golden Tigers return to the track on March 14th when the squad travels to the Morehouse Relays in Atlanta, Georgia.
