Track and Field Has Strong Showing In Birmingham
Brenau University began its 2014 campaign with a strong showing at the Emory Invitational held at the Birmingham (Ala.) Crossplex this past weekend.
This early indoor meet served as an early season barometer to give the Golden Tigers an indication of the impact of their rigorous fall training schedule and an idea of what work needs to be done.
Top individual performances included Lammy Sokunbi's 16th place finish in the 60 meter dash and 9th place finish in the 200 meters. Hunter Creswell placed 3rd overall in pole vault with a personal best of 10'2". Dana Cole made an appearance in the finals in the Shot put with a top nine finish, while Deishane' Honeycutt, finished 4th overall in the open 400 meter dash. Snowie Saunders also placed 7th overall in the high jump.
Multiple school records were broken as well as Ismaelle Occeus had a 16'6" Long jump, Brittany Aikens ran 19:33 in the 5000 meter run, Hunter Creswell vaulted 10'2" in the pole vault and the 4 x 400 meter relay team (featuring Honeycutt, Monika Nwajei, Amber Curney and Anazjah Mayes) finished in 4:06.37.
There were also school records set in some new events. In the indoor weight throw, Devony Hemingway threw a distance of 25'10". The Distance Medley Relay team of Aikens, Tyana Luna, Jasmine Ray, and Natalie Williams ran a time of 14:35, while Williams also set a new record in the one mile run with a time of 5:54.

The Golden Tigers hit the ground running again on January 31st when they compete at the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson (S.C.) University.
