Track and Field Adds Four
After winning the 2013 SSAC championship, Coach Rick Ludwig looks to continue to strengthen the program by signing four new additions to the Brenau Golden Tiger track and field team.
Aubrey Fearnow, a graduate of Oglethorpe County High School, is the newest member of the incoming class. The Valedictorian of her high school, Fearnow placed 3rd in GHSA state meet in discus with a throw of 120' 2" and placed 7th at GHSA state meet in shot put. "Aubrey is bright and extremely hard-working", said Coach Ludwig. "Her dedication to excellence will be a tremendous asset to our team. We see her quickly competing with the top throwers in the conference."
Tioni Harris is the second addition to the field events this offseason. A graduate of Collins Hill High School, Harris placed 15th in the GHSA State meet during her senior year. With personal best throws of 37'7" in the shot and 87'9" in the discus, Coach Ludwig hopes that Harris can help in all throwing events: "Tioni is a very fast and very powerful athlete. As a dedicated weight lifter and technician, she has tremendous potential to help us, not only in shot and discus but the hammer and javelin as well."
DeMichia Higgins, the second signee of 2013 from Gwinnett County, is a graduate of Duluth High School. Higgins placed 4th in 100 meter hurdles at the GHSA State meet with time of 14.81 and qualified for AAU and USATF Nationals. A strong 100, 200 and 400 meter runner, as well as exceptional hurdler, Coach Ludwig feels that, "DeMichia is a fierce competitor along with a remarkable hurdler. Her ability to perform at her best at big meets makes her especially valuable to our team"
Tori Mullinax, a local athlete from Chestatee High School, was the state runner-up in the GHSA State meet in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:39. She also placed 7th in the GHSA State meet in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:24. Mullinax finished 10th at the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. this summer. "We're excited that Tori will be a Golden Tiger and make an immediate impact on our cross country and track teams", noted Coach Ludwig. "She's an amazing endurance athlete who has overcome adversity to be an extremely successful distance runner".
