Brenau Track & Field and Cross Country enhance rosters
Cross Country Coach Susan McIntyre and Track & Field Coach Richard Ludwig announced this week that they have received commitments from four dual-sport athletes: Hunter Creswell from Sonoraville High School, Calhoun, Ga.; Deishane Honeycutt from Stone Mountain High School, Stone Mountain, Ga.; Amber Curney from Druid Hills High School, Atlanta; and Tyana Luna of Berkmar High School, Lilburn, Ga.
Cresswell, said Ludwig, "is a remarkable young woman with a wide variety of interests and abilities - a welcome addition to our team." This summer in the USA Track & Field competition at New Manchester High School, Douglasville, Ga., she set a personal pole vault record of 10 feet 2 inches. But she was also the state runner-up in the pole vault this year at the Georgia High School Association state championship in Albany, the Gordon Central High School 2012 Warrior Invitational champion and Gordon County champion in Calhoun, Ga. "One of Hunter's best qualities is her persistence and willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve success," said McIntyre, who also recruited her for the fall cross-country program.
Honeycutt not
only was an outstanding high school track athlete but also was her school's
2012 senior class salutatorian. On the field, she specializes in 200- and
400-meter races with personal records of 26:79 seconds and 58:75 seconds. "We
are very excited to have such a strong athlete and student coming to Brenau,"
said Ludwig. "Her coach, Dante Ferguson, described Deishane' as a 'strong
leader and one that set the bar very high for herself and her new teammates.'
The 400-meter dash is the 'bread and butter' of track and field. We feel like
she will give us a strong anchor leg for our 4 x 400 relay and will compete
very well in the open 400 and other events as well. We are very excited she
will be with us this fall."

Luna, however, was a successful cross-country runner in high school, but Brenau also signed her to add depth and ability to the Golden Tigers' distance program. McIntyre

and Ludwig said they believe she will be competitive in anything from the 800-meter up, but her forte appears to be the longer distances. She has already posted a 5:56 in the 1600- meter, 12:56 in the 3200 and 21:37 for a 5K. "We genuinely believe she will blossom when she starts training year-round as a distance athlete," said McIntyre. "She fits the Brenau model perfectly as she has a great work ethic and great character. We are excited for her to be part of our programs."
Brenau University Golden Tigers Athletics, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, participate in nine intercollegiate sports: basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
