Indoor Track Produces Strong First Day at 2026 AAC Indoor Championships

Winston Salem, North Carolina- The Golden Tigers track and field program got off to a blazing start of the 2026 AAC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at JDL Fast Track on Thursday.
After Day 1, Brenau sits in second place with 53 points, trailing only Milligan (Tn.) who amassed 58 points. Columbia (S.C) sits in a distant third place after the opening day of competition with 42 points.
Sophomore sensation Madison Kitson had a stellar first day by capturing top honors in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.47m (37-7.75). The San Antonio, Tx. native also grabbed gold in the 400m dash in 58.35, which set a new meet record. Senior Kamryn Chambliss also placed seventh in 1:00.75 and sophomore Kyla Laurent earned 11th place in 1:02.96.
Fellow sophomore Jennaya Coucoules also made her mark at the championships by winning the women's high jump with a leap of 1.57m (5-1.75). Another outstanding sophomore, Tatyana Denis, garnered a silver medal in the event.
The Distance Medley relay team of Victoria Woods, Ja'Leyah Wongus, De'Nya Reynolds, and Averie Akin found the podium with a second place finish and dropped another second off the school record, which the group previously set earlier this season.
Several other athletes contributed points throughout the day. Gabbi Grant and Taylor Knox finished 5th and 7th in the triple jump. In the 400m dash, senior Kamryn Chambliss placed 7th in the highly contested race. Grant (9.80) and Knox (9.97) also ran huge personal bests in the 60m hurdles to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Senior Jasmine Johnson ran a personal-best and tied the school record (7.79) in the 60m dash to be the top qualifier for the finals on day 2.
