Bees Slip Past Golden Tigers in AAC Play

Gainesville, Georgia- The #15 Brenau tennis team fell to SCAD Atlanta 4-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play at the Lessie Smithgall Tennis Center on Friday.

The Golden Tigers got off to a strong start by sweeping all three doubles matches. At #1 doubles, Juana Zambrano and Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul defeated Begona Benjumeda and Simran Kejriwal (6-3).

Iin the doubles clinching match, the pairing of Evelin Gouveia and Sally Brannon edged past SCAD's Nadia Brunzlow and Elizabeth Allen by a score of 7-6(1).

Also, at #2 doubles, Brenau's Bianca Andersen and MaryWynn Brannon won over Blanca Alvarez and Madelyn Homan,7-5.

In singles play, Brenau captured both #5 and #6 singles, however, the Bees took control by winning three singles matches. In the #1 singles match, SCAD's Simran Kejriwal defeated Juana Zambrano 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the victory.

"This was a tough loss for us today," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "SCAD Atlanta did a great job in singles, winning the last two matches in the third set to beat us 4-3. We have two more conference matches next week, so we've got to learn from today's loss and come out stronger against Reinhardt and Montreat."

Brenau (5-4 overall, 3-3 AAC) next travels to face Reinhardt University (Ga.) (4-4 overall, 3-3 AAC) on Wednesday at 1 pm in Canton, Ga.
