Lavender Wins Opening Match at Oracle ITA Championships

Newport Beach, California- Brenau sophomore Elyse Lavender won her opening match at the Oracle ITA Cup Championships on Wednesday.

The Boynton Beach, Fla. native defeated Old Dominion University's Holly Hutchinson, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5, to advance to the round of 32.

"It was a lot of fun to watch these two players (Lavender and Hutchinson) battle today," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "They demonstrated such a high level of tennis. I am proud of Elyse for how she fought from beginning to end and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's match."

Lavender will face the #4 overall seed Alexa Graham from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, who dispatched LSU's Taylor Bridges in the opening round. The match will be at 12:30 pm Pacific Standard Time on Thursday.
