Tennis Tops Milligan in Fall AAC Matchup
Milligan College, Tennessee- The Brenau tennis team defeated Milligan (Tenn.) College 6-1 in a rare fall conference matchup this past weekend.
For this season, the NAIA adopted a different ITA scoring format, which includes doubles matches concluding at six games instead of eight and the team that wins a majority of doubles matches getting only one point.
In doubles play, the Golden Tigers posted a clean sweep of the Buffaloes, including a 6-1 victory at #2 doubles for Valentina Pabon and Juana Zambrano over the pairing of Marliana Peterson and McKenzie Grady.
In singles play, #1 Elyse Lavender rolled past Minda Martin, 6-0, 6-0, while Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul also posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Grady. Ronja Kramer clinched the match for Brenau with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Kaitlin Barrett.
"We've only been playing against each other in practices, so it was nice to face someone different," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "Getting a match in this early in the season is an important step in our team development and it also happened to be a conference match where the result mattered".
Brenau next hosts Berry (Ga.) College on September 17th at 3:00 pm at the Lessie Smithgall Tennis Center in Gainesville.
