Tennis Wins Third AAC Match; Rolls Past TWU;
Gainesville, Georgia- The #5 Brenau tennis team won its third conference match with an 8-1 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan University at the Lessie Smithgall Tennis Center on Sunday.
"The weather conditions were tricky with a lot of wind today," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "We managed it well, made a few adjustments to deal with the variables and it paid off. Tennessee Wesleyan was a tough opponent this afternoon, so winning 8-1 was important for us."
"We've improved in a few areas but need to get better in others. We have another opportunity to tweak things tomorrow as we travel to Brunswick to play Coastal Georgia."
In doubles play, the Golden Tigers took a 2-0 lead as the #1 and #3 doubles teams won their opening matches. However the Bulldogs captured a win at #2 doubles as the pairing of Haruka Hirata and Yvette Callaghan upended the Golden Tigers' pairing of Juana Zambrano and Evelin Gouveia 9-8 (5).
In singles play, Brenau swept all singles matches, including the clincher at #4 singles as Kirsten Dickins defeated Hirata 6-3, 6-3 to close out the victory.
Brenau (3-3 overall, 3-0 AAC) next travels to Coastal Georgia (3-2 overall) on Monday for a 2 pm non-conference matchup.
