#5 Tennis Sweeps Point in AAC Competition
West Point, Georgia- The #5 Brenau tennis team defeated a competitive Point University squad in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
The Skyhawks came out fast at #2 doubles as Maria Martinez and Maddi Marler led 5-2 over Juana Zambrano and Kirsten Dickins. However the Golden Tigers pairing rallied off six consecutive points to storm past the host pairing to capture the win 8-5.
The Golden Tigers then swept the remaining doubles and singles matches for the team's second conference win of the year.
"This was an important conference victory on the road for us," said head coach Andre Ferreria. "On most courts, we were able to control the tempo and momentum, but we also faced our fair share of adversity, especially at doubles #2."
"Point started the match at a very high level and we had a bit of a slow start, but the momentum slowly turned our way, which shows that both Juana Zambrano and Kirsten Dickins both believe in their ability and are working well together as a team."
Brenau (2-3 overall, 2-0 AAC) next hosts Tennessee Wesleyan University (RV) (2-1 overall, 0-0 AAC) on Sunday at 1 pm in Gainesville.
