Tennis Overwhelms Tennessee Wesleyan in AAC Play
The #16 Brenau tennis team won their fourth straight Appalachian Athletic Conference match with a sweep of Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday in Athens, Tennessee.
"It was nice to rebound from a convincing loss against Furman to a convincing conference win on the road," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "We played well against Tennessee Wesleyan today, which is receiving votes at the national level."
The Golden Tigers won all three of their doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
At #4 singles, Paula Rives opened individual play with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over Giovanna Alves. At #3 singles, Maya Mammetgulyyeva rolled past Noemi Perez, 6-0, 6-2, to clinch the match for the Golden Tigers.
Brenau (6-6 overall, 4-0 AAC) next hosts Point (Ga.) University (RV) on for a noon matchup on Sunday at the Lessie Smithgall Tennis Center in Gainesville.
