Tennis Opens 2018 Season Against Georgia College
The #21 Brenau tennis team opened the 2018 season with a 7-2 loss to Georgia College and State University on Saturday in Gainesville.
"We're fortunate and appreciative for the opportunity to compete against a solid program, such as GCSU," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "Our team benefits tremendously from matches like today, both in singles and doubles. We will regroup, try to learn as much as possible from the loss and get ready for next Friday."
The pairing of Paula Rives Palau and Patricia Recalde Pacua slipped past Emilia Richter and Paula Garriga 8-5 in the opening double match. However, both the #1 team of Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul and Rebecca Pijlis and the #2 team of Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Valentina Pabon fell 9-7 and 8-5 respectively in their doubles matches.
In singles play, #1 player Charoensirisutthikul defeated Jena Kelly 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 over Jena Kelly, but all of the other individual matches went in favor of the visiting Bobcats.
The Golden Tigers next compete against the University of North Georgia on February 9th at 2:00 pm in Dahlonega.
