Golden Tigers Tennis Honored by SSAC

Members of the Brenau tennis team were honored for their regular season performances at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships in Mobile, Alabama.

Fatyha Berjane was named the 2016 SSAC Player of the Year for her outstanding season. The Casablanca, Morocco senior is currently ranked #5 in the NAIA and was undefeated in conference play. In 2015, Berjane was named an NAIA All-American and SSAC Newcomer of the Year.

Berjane was also selected as the Brenau Champions of Character team member for best representing the Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.

Sophomores Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Patricia Recalde and freshman Rebecca Pijls were also voted to the SSAC All-Conference team. For Recalde, this was her second All-Conference selection after being honored in 2015.

Pijls was also joined by fellow freshman Kirsten Dickins as SSAC All-Freshman selections for their outstanding inaugural seasons.

Reclade, senior Kelley Cohron and Paula Rives each earned SSAC All-Academic team status as for outstanding academic achievement. Team members must attain a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and take at least 24 semester hours.

The Golden Tigers continue their play at the SSAC Championships this weekend and look ahead to the NAIA National Tournament.
