Berjane Named SSAC Tennis Player of the Week

Brenau tennis player Fatyha Berjane has been selected as the SSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The senior from Casablanca, Morocco, was chosen for her performance during the week of Feb. 29-March 6.

Berjane led the No. 7-ranked Golden Tigers to a 3-0 week in non-conference play, sweeping a West Coast trip by topping receiving votes San Diego Christian (Calif.), 8-1; No. 10-ranked Westmont (Calif.), 7-2; and Biola (Calif.), 9-0.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) No. 9-ranked NAIA singles player bested Aleksandra Emelianova of San Diego Christian (4-6, 6-1, 6-0), ITA No. 4 Lauren Stratman of Westmont (3-6, 7-5, 11-9) and Madeline Heer of Biola (6-1, 6-1) on the week.

Along with partner Kelley Cohron, Berjane defeated the Hawks' (8-5), Warriors' (8-3) and Eagles' (8-4) No. 2 doubles pairings.

On the season, Berjane is 7-1 in singles matches and 6-2 in doubles play.
