Tennis Wins Opening SSAC Match
The #7 Brenau tennis team defeated Middle Georgia State 6-3 to win their first Southern States Athletic Conference match of the season on Thursday in Macon, Ga.
After the team of Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Kirsten Dickins dropped their #2 doubles match, both the #3 team of Rebecca Pijls and Paula Rives Palau and the #1 team of Fatyha Berjane and Patricia Recalde Pacua each won their respective matches to help the Golden Tigers take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Dickens started off singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 singles, then Mammetgulyyeva added to the win total with a 6-3, 7-5 to increase the lead to 4-1. After dropping the #6 singles match, Brenau secured the victory as Pijls closed out the match at #2 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
"I was pleased with the outcome against a very good Middle Georgia team," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "I hope this experience will build our confidence as it shows we have a deep team and our players are ready to perform at a higher level when the opportunity comes."
Brenau (2-1 overall, 1-0 SSAC) next plays SSAC opponent Coastal Georgia on Friday, February 12th at 2 pm eastern in Macon, Georgia.
