Tigers Suffers First Loss of the Season

The #3 ranked Brenau University Tennis lost a tough match to NCAA Division III powerhouse Emory University, falling to the Eagles 7-2.

The Golden Tigers picked up a win in doubles play, as the #3 doubles team of freshman Vladica Djurdjevic (Jagodina, Serbia) and junior Stephanie Moniz (London, England) defeated Beatrice Rosen and Brenna Kelly 8-5.

On the singles side, Dominika Jasova, the NAIA ranked #4 player, defeated Gabrielle Clark, the reigning small college national champion, 7-5 and 6-4.

Coach Andre Ferreira said about his team's loss, "Emory outplayed us today. They pushed from the beginning to the end. We had some up and down moments in both singles and doubles play, but that isn't enough against top teams".

On a positive note, Coach Ferreria noted that, "Overall, I'm pleased with the team's effort. And Dominika had a great win over one of the best players in small college tennis. We are better prepared now than we were yesterday".

The loss dropped Brenau to 6-1 on the season, while Emory sits at 4-2.

The #3 doubles team of Djurdejevic and Moniz is still currently undefeated, while #1 singles player Jasova also holds an unblemished record.
